A terrible cold has been making the rounds in the last week. You too? Was that you on Ligne 3 the other night, hiding a coughing fit behind your free copy of Stylist magazine? On top of resting, destressing with bubblewrap, and thinking about buying stock in Lotus tissues, here are some things that have the power to make you feel better.
1/ BREATHE Pranayama for the Flu
An alternate nostril breathing technique is beneficial for reducing sinus pain.
2/ MAKE Ginger tea
Thinly slice a 2-inch/5 cm piece of fresh ginger. Put the ginger in a pot and cover it with 1 quart/litre of water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 15 mn. Good on its own, however if you’re not into spicy things, try diluting it with hot water and maple syrup/agave/honey.
3/ WATCH Sushi cats
This is perfect for when you are too tired to sleep and need a distraction. We also recommend repeated viewings of our favorite films (Mon Oncle, Chungking Express, or The Red Shoes) or really, really, really bad television.
Thanks to Amanda Dates, we were reminded of this efficient little elixir: mix a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (go with organic) with hot water, lemon (vitamin C) and honey (good for sore throats and coughs) and drink up. It’s not a bad idea, either, to add a few Ayurvedic tricks to the mix.
Some good ideas here. We also like using a bolster or blankets for Viparita Karani, and Supta Baddha Konasana. Sometimes, though, the best pose is savasana :-)
* “Être enrhumé comme un loup” is an expression that comes from Medieval times when it was believed that whosoever would hold a wolf’s icy stare would catch a cold.
