It's Always Summer on the Inside

If you’ve ever put on an O’Neill wetsuit, you’ll be familiar with founder Jack O’Neill’s saying which is printed on the wetsuit's interior: “It’s always summer on the inside.” That surfer’s mantra is essential when you’re about to launch yourself into the icy Pacific surf, and just as relevant to the non-surfer who might be feeling that first daunting snap of Fall. Yogis, like surfers, are a pretty sophisticated bunch: they know how to cultivate a sunny, calm interior state in order to ward off the turbulence of outside forces. They also know that without the fertile darkness of Autumn and Winter, there’d be no dazzling Spring and Summer to enjoy in the first place.

For those of you crying “What a load of nonsense! Bring back Summer!” have we got ideas for you! In addition to Caroline Boulinguez's retreat to Guéthary (17-25 September), here are two more getaways to help you prolong the warmth of Summer’s embrace.

• Escape to Bordeaux and follow your dreams! This retreat organized by One World Retreats promises an opportunity to not only relax with yoga and meditation, but also get in touch with your deeper self thanks to six "Follow Your Dreams" sessions with organizers Claude Chouinard and Iyan Yaspriyana. The retreat also features wine tasting, a cooking class, a bicycle tour of Bordeaux as well as ample time to enjoy the château's surrounding forest.

Sat 17 September-Sat 24 September. More details here.

• Yoga and Cooking in Provence retreat with Certified Anusara Yoga teacher Osi Mizrahi and Editor, Writer and Gourmet Guide Elinor Griffith. Having lived in Nice and visited St Paul de Vence countless times, I can assure you that the location alone guarantees delight and wonder. This retreat includes yoga, meditation, cooking demos and classes (one in Julia Child's home, in fact), plus visits to local towns and museums, including the spectacular Fondation Maeght.

Sat 22 October-Fri 28 October. More details here.
