If you’ve always wanted to understand the difference between a led yoga class and a Mysore-style one, this video should shed some light. Yogis move through the Ashtanga sequences at their own pace and level, following the rhythms of their own breath, with teachers offering adjustments and encouragement as needed. Many non-Mysore practicing students think it’s simply a room full of people doing their own thing, but that’s not true: there’s a subtle magic at work as a roomful of individual practitioners come together. As one breath on one mat begins entraining a neighboring one on another mat, movements quietly begin echoeing each other at different intervals, creating shifting and nearly hypnotic waves of energy and rest.
Gratitude to Agathe Philbé and Mysore Yoga Paris for sharing this beautiful portrait of the studio and its students.
