Foundations of Ayurveda (Level 1) offers the study of the fundamental theories and practices of Ayurveda.
This 10-hour course allows students to learn the benefits of daily self-care practices such as seasonal eating, meditation, mindfulness, and Yoga, all while exploring Ayurveda’s philosophy and its take on topics such as digestion, nutrition, anatomy, physiology, and psychology. The fundamental theory of the doshas: Explore the 10 pairs of opposite qualities and how they manifest in plants, humans and other animals, the seasons, and food. According to Ayurveda, these qualities are represented by the five elements, which then create the three doshas. The three doshas, in turn, have their subdoshas. In Ayurveda, there are seven tissues to be uncovered, which work in conjunction with the senses, the mind, and the spirit.
Dinacharya—routines for health and well-being, such as care of the sense organs, sleep habits, and mindfulness practices: A daily self-care routine is the cornerstone of health in Ayurveda. Each season calls for specific practices and shifts to support optimal health. Discover nourishing ways to cleanse the sense organs, sound food routines, restorative sleeping habits, and other stress-reduction tools.
The basics of an Ayurvedic approach to cooking, digestion, nutrition, and seasonal eating: Food as Medicine - Discover how seasonal eating can help us maintain our health. Explore the six tastes in Ayurveda, mindful eating, and how spices can support robust digestion.
Ayurveda-inspired yoga, meditation, and pranayama: Ayurveda and yoga are sister sciences designed to be practiced together. Learn to the practice of yoga, pranayama, and meditation to balance the qualities of the doshas, the season, and the time of day. Whether you are new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, applying the lens of Ayurveda to yoga is an invitation to integrate the power of these profound practices.
This is an all day training. An Ayurvedic lunch will be provided.
